I was born and raised in Oakland, Ca and now live in rural unincorporated Placer County above Auburn. I started playing table tennis at the recreation center at a young age and the age of 49 (which I have been for less than 24 hours at time of this writing) I am still playing table tennis at a city recreation center, only this time in Auburn, Ca. I moved up here in 2003 with my wife, 2 sons, 2 dogs and 7 indoor cats to engage in one of my favorite hobbies - fishing. Most of my leisure time is spent either fishing, working in the yard where I raise Xmas trees (for fun, friends and family) or doing things with the great new friends we've met up in the area, many from the table tennis club.

I began playing table tennis growing up in N.Y. at the age of five. I played competitively at the national level until the age of 13. I have not improved since. Today, I enjoy the game although sometimes my emotions get the best of me. Most important however, is the number of new people I have met and played. So many new faces and new friends. "Bravo" to table tennis.

Regarding my profile, As I have not ever seen it from the side, the best I can guess is that it is pretty much the same as from the front—pear shaped—over weight—old and bald. I have to play table tennis against all the younger skinny guys overflowing with energy and exciting hair. Most people play table tennis after work for exercise. In my case, it’s the other way around. I lay block, stone or brick all day, maybe pour a few truck loads of concrete and then I play table tennis for relaxation. At least I keep thinking that’s what it’s for. As it usually turns out, the players at Auburn club won’t let me relax. I might as well have stayed to pour another load of concrete.

Gerry Mifsud

I‘ve lived in Auburn for 8 years. Table tennis is an awesome activity that really puts me in the moment. There are wonderful benefits in being in the moment. Playing the game is a healthy coping strategy for life’s challenges that gives you a chance to get away. So come and get away from the daily grind and let’s play some “ping pong” or table tennis, whichever you please! My other interests are social work, adventure enthusiast, soccer and other outdoor activities.
