greetings all  -

just a few more weeks until the hot weather breaks  - this is what we are told.   meantime, the auburn table tennis club in its fully air conditioned, climate controlled location, with iced down fountain water and a soda machine to boot hosts the regular monday/wednesday hitting.  can’t stand the heat in your kitchen – join us and be sure to bring your sweaters.

tournament -  sacramento (in folsom, actually) – deadline for entries is august 14th (entries must be received by that date; so mail them out by the 10th or so).  lots of great events.  we will i am sure have a lot of final round robin warm up at the club wed. august 19th.   entry form and info is linked from our website.

july 29 round robin  congratulations tom spesick and hans kawaletz.  nice work jp solly stepping up his game; we knew this was coming.

for wednesdays -  if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m), please call bill (916) 275-0899 or tom  (530) 613-0101.   if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

looking forward to seeing everyone this coming week!

greetings all  -

welcome new players and some old faces over the past few weeks  - jun degamo, nenad zagorac, matt miles and jordan neumann, jacob blake – new to the club!  thank you for paying us a visit and we hope to see more of you.  evan bradley (long lost, evan bradley) takes credit for steering matt and jordan to us.  jacob – stir up some trouble at school (they have a table and apparently hit a few from time to time) and bring the rest of those players.  we’ll have an “all educators” night.

on the “old timers” list – jz and brian zhuang, nice to see you and have you dispense some punishment in auburn.

reminder - tournament -  sacramento (in folsom, actually) will be putting on a two star usatt tournament – august 22nd.  link from our website for an entry form!  entries due by august 14th.  jz advises there is lodging too, with a special rate; not that we have to travel that far from auburn.  this tournament will be conducted at the folsom sports complex, where jz’s folsom club convenes sundays and thursdays.  35 minutes from auburn.

july 22 round robin  18 players, nice to see 4 groups.  followed by some doubles and open play singles, too.   tom will cover the july 29 rr – thank you tom.    for july 22 – congratulations jz prevailing in group 1; groups 2 and 3 – many ties for 1st places, but special note and very nice hitting in group 2 by eric stefanic and ricky pisanu, both finding their way to a quick 100 + rating point gains.  eric and ricky, we expect to see you at the tournament aug. 22!  group 4 – fred myers, group winner, remains on a fast track of improvement.  maybe it’s the hot weather?  secret training facility in meadow vista?  tips from john hanna? (well, let’s be reasonable here).

for wednesdays -  if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m), please call tom  (530) 613-0101.   if you reach him, he will put you on a table.

time for a doubles round robin night?  email your thoughts on this; we’re due to mix things up and perhaps an early september doubles extravaganza would be fun.

notable quotable:  “attack everything.”  (joe badrena (also gen. george patton, we believe)).

good boy news – by john hanna – the alternative “club news”

so with bill k out for another week no doubt spending time visiting big 5 sporting goods in the quest for the holy shorts, yet another new table 1 champion emerges from the tenergy archives!  yes, mr. grant connell who floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee!

first of all kudos to bh.  i use his initials as apparently the attc is being measured up for a new custom made driveway each time he shows up!  the fact that he always has his tt equipment with him and deodorant tells me he is hooked on this sport and took a game off most of the table one regulars on wednesday night.

great job bob h…oops, that was close!  sorry mr. hemmings!  yikes! i hope your wife does not read this!

er. ok. fred continues to impress and takes the first game off kumar ayaraman who appears to playing more tennis than table tennis.  kumar!  it’s 100 degrees out there.  it’s 70 degrees at the center!  this is not rocket science! hello?  see you again every week, no excuses

fred myers.  fred myers. no, not a double word to be deleted via spell check.  fred myers! he’s looking sleek and if he does not win the most improved player award during the next six months, i will shave my head (and bob’s)!

larry scott continues to risk all with his serves tightly down the line.  i hear that only anson managed to fight off the human robot who surely must be on his way to 1500 plus sooner or later. larry, easy boy…i cannot afford to lose any more points, 50 at a time!

anson’s prize will be a match with jz who should be here on wednesday to deliver my newly “rubbered” blade.  yes, he is personally delivering it to me!  oh what respect!

for those who have not heard the news from sactt rr. yours truly, demolished jz for yet another giant killing act. who’s next?  trevor runyan?  anyone who wears his name on his shirt will be fine with me!

i hear a rumor that tyler may consider losing his penholder style soon!   i think that’s a great idea!  if you also decide to cut your hair too, i know some cute cosmetologists at mti college who would be eager to get their hands on you! (er sorry tom, not sure if tyler is 18 yet)!  they do my hair! (er did).

so, who i have forgotten?  laszlo.  take this as a compliment old boy, if you keep losing points you won’t be able to drive anymore of your flashing cross court forehands past my chipped rapid carbon blade anymore.  that’s a huge relief for me…it’s bad enough with tom flashing his backhands wide down my forehand!

eric!  nice to see you.  was that a moonwalk i saw when you were changing ends against fred myers?  remember, i can get mj’s autograph for you, anytime!

i should not give joe b a hard time as he was close to an upset with me. well played joe. don’t forget your shorts next time. we like to follow the usatt rules!

and welcome to devin forsey.  i have already played devin in folsom a couple of times and my guess is that he will be winning some more points soon.  however, lose the pimps and i will practice with you more!

ps i have ordered a dozen  orange t-shirts with the slogan “ i beat jz”

they are $19.99 and will increase in price each year until one is ordered.  after 10 years they will be donated to a thrift store.

‘i beat jt (james therriault) (twice)” available to special order.

hello auburn table tennis members from far and wide -

tournament time -  sacramento will be putting on a two star usatt tournament – august 22nd.  link from our website for an entry form!  entries due by august 14th.  this tournament will be conducted at the folsom sports complex, where jz’s folsom club convenes sundays and thursdays.  an easy drive from auburn (and roseville), so this may be the opportunity you are looking for to find out what a tournament is like.  want more information?  ask any of our members who have played at these and other tournaments over the years.

july 15 round robin  thank you tom for covering the rr duties again; i am back on the job july 22.  meanwhile, congratulations grant connell, administering a whipping to those higher ranked players thinking of resting on their laurels.  congratulations to anson k. as well.  group 3 – nobody could decide who was in charge there, with kumar, eric, and devin forsey all posting 3-1 records.  devin, welcome and plan on a return visit or two, to settle this score.

for wednesdays -  if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m), please call tom  (530) 613-0101 or bill (916) 275-0899.  if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

notable quotable:  “good boy.”  (jh).

happy july to all at the auburn table tennis club -

apologies for the delayed news and reporting.  a funny thing happened on the way to the forum … suffice to say i spent the better part of a week testing out (legal) narcotic drugs and the latest in kidney stone technology.   hurt just a little bit more than when dave mead plugged me in the head with a smash that went astray.

july 1 and july 8 round robin – full steam ahead and the results being tabulated under the new software are up and available.  welcome joe badrena visiting us from reno on july 1.  welcome jp solly on july 8; we hope to see you (both) regularly.   july 1 table winners were lu li (clearly getting way too much sleep an appearing fit and rested despite having a newborn in the house), larry scott, and jon saunders.  table 3 had 3 finishers at 3-1, and no tie-breakers in the new software.   july 8 – john hanna and bob hemming prevail.  they both play sundays in folsom.  that may be a clue; perhaps they are conspiring down there.

las vegashardbat - wow   corner tim aquino for the run down on this.  sounded interesting, and sounds like there may be more in the future.  espn is to run this in september, and we may want to consider having a hardbat night in auburn to coincide with or follow that screening.   not that we would offer $100,000 prize money …

further and more useful news when my strength fully returns.

for wednesdays -  if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m), please call tom  (530) 613-0101.  if you reach him, he will put you on a table.

notable quotable:  “watch out for the spin.”  (d. mead).
